Age Calculator FAQ
Here you will find answers to the most common questions about What Is My Age Today and our suite of age calculator tools. Whether you are curious about accuracy, privacy, or how the calculations work, this page has you covered.
How accurate is this age calculator?
Our calculator is accurate to the exact second. It uses your device's local clock and timezone to compute the precise difference between your birth date/time and the current moment. No external time servers or APIs are involved. The algorithm handles leap years, varying month lengths (28, 29, 30, or 31 days), and daylight saving time transitions correctly.
Is my data stored or sent anywhere?
No. Every calculation runs entirely in your browser using client-side JavaScript. Your date of birth is never transmitted to any server, never stored in any database, and never shared with any third party. We do not use analytics that track your birthday input. Your personal information stays on your device at all times.
Does this work offline?
Yes. Once the page has loaded in your browser, all age calculations work without an internet connection. The calculator relies only on your device's clock, so you can close your network connection and the live ticker will continue updating every second. This makes it useful even in areas with limited connectivity.
How is age calculated?
We compute the difference between your birth date and the current date/time step by step. First, we calculate complete years. Then complete months from the remaining time. Then complete days. Finally, hours, minutes, and seconds. Each step uses the remainder from the previous calculation, ensuring no double-counting. Month lengths are determined by the actual calendar month, not by an average of 30.44 days.
Can I use this for legal age verification?
This tool is designed for informational and personal use only. While the calculations are accurate, it should not be used as a substitute for official legal age verification processes. For legal purposes, always refer to official government-issued identification documents and consult with the appropriate authorities.
What timezone is used?
The calculator automatically uses your device's local timezone for all computations. If you were born in a different timezone than your current one, you can adjust by providing your birth time relative to your current timezone. The results reflect the time as your device understands it.
